Deep Rock Galactic FAQ
Q: Can BOSCO mine minerals and lootbugs?
- A: Yes, but he can’t pick them up. Leave them on the ground. A Dwarf can pick up minerals on the ground by simply moving over them.

Q: Can BOSCO mine eggs?
- A: No

Q: Can BOSCO mine red sugar?
- A: Yes, the health is just left on the ground, for the player to pick up at a later stage?

Q: Does BOSCO reveal exploration (pickup) tokens?
- A: Yes

Q: Does BOSCO roll dice to chop walls or mine stuff?
- A: Yes -even droids can fail, from time to time.

Q: Can BOSCO pickaxe attack an adjacent enemy?
- A: Yes (but it is not really his style -he is more into shooting...).

Q: Can BOSCO use the reroll effect of a Flare Shot?
- A: Yes.

Q: Does BOSCO's rocket attack do area damage?
- A: No. The explosive die only does area damage when an AOE diagram is shown. Otherwise, it only affects a single space.

Q: Does the Exploder blow up stalagmites, walls, or platforms when it detonates?
- A: No, but it damages dwarves, creatures and the sentry gun.

Q: If I am behind a Praetorian, and it activates, does it have to face me to attack?
- A: Enemies automatically face in the way they attack, so yes, the creature would rotate. However, it would not count as movement, it'll turn and attack during the same activation, as long as you are in range.

Q: Will an Oppressor destroy adjacent walls, stalagmites or grunts if it rotates to face a threat behind it?
- A: No. Big creatures like the Oppressor rotate on the spot (not considering spaces adjacent to it, for rotation purposes).

Q: Do I roll the die for any stalagmites destroyed by the Oppressor?
- A: No, stalagmites only give potential minerals when pickaxed, not when they are simply destroyed.

Q: Can the Oppressor crush a supply pod or flames?
- A: No.

Q: If a creature is activated, but its path to the nearest target is temporarily blocked, where does it go?
- A: If the target of a creature is behind a temporary obstacle (flame wall, shield or other creatures) it will go after another target if it can reach it in one move. If not, it will try to get closer to the target behind the obstacle, if possible.

Q: Does the Warden protection shield work through walls?
- A: Yes.

Q: Does the Warden protection shield protect the Warden itself?
- A: No.

Q: If a Warden is killed by an attack that hits multiple spaces, will it still protect creatures on those attackedspaces during this attack?
- A: No -they will take normal damage even during the same attack, as long as you remove the Warden first. Since there is no rule stating in what order you resolve damage from a weapon that does area damage, you get to decide theorder.

Q: If a Warden is frozen or stunned, does its shield still work?
- A: Yes.

Q: At what point is damage reduced by the Warden's shield?
- A: Before calculating any resistance and attack bonuses against a frozen creature. For example, applying 3 bullet hits to a frozen Slasher would normally kill it (reduce damage by 1 because of bullet resistance, then double the remaining 2, resulting in 4 damage), but since the shield reduces the number of hits by two, no damage is dealt as the creature’s bullet resistance will absorb the only bullet hit that penetrated the shield).

Q: Will creatures not move or attack until activated by a card?
- A: Correct.

Q: How long does a creature stay activated?
- A: Only for that specific event. The creature only gets to do one action, then it goes passive again, until another card activates it.

Q: Will a creature move toward a target it can't see?
- A: Yes.

Q: Regarding creatures moving over pits, can they cross a wide pit straight ahead or do they have to go to the wall edge?
- A: They have to walk on the edge of the pits, meaning they can walk on pit spaces next to regular terrain spaces.

Q: If creatures can’t attack or reach a Dwarf by moving, do they move anyway?
- A: Yes, they will try to close the distance, in order to attack another time.

Q: Do creatures on the ground block Line of Sight for flying creatures?
- A: Yes, except for Grunts, they don’t block Line of Sight for anything.

Q: If an Event card, like ”A Slasher emerges” tells me to place a creatureon an adjacent spot, but none are available, where do I place the creature?
- A: Nowhere! You are in luck, the creature will not emerge (this time).

Q: What happens if a scared away result is rolled during a reaction shot (e.g. against an emerging Slasher)?
- A: The creature is scared away and does not attack: Move it up to two spaces away from the attacker, if possible. Then nothing more happens. If it was a creature not on the board (leech or grabber), the scared away result has NO effect and the creature will still attack.

Q: I have the Goo From Above expansion. In what order do I activate the creatures?
- A: Always do the base game creatures first. Also, always activate from top to bottom, on any of the creature sheets.

Q: Can Goo tokens be placed on a space where there is currently a flame token?
- A: Yes.

Q: If a ranged bug (like the Webspitter) is within attack range of multiple targets, will it shoot at the closest one, or the one who most recently played?
- A: The closest one.

Q: Will creatures attack an unconscious Dwarf?
- A: No, they will seek out another target, if possible.

Q: Will creatures attack a knocked over or stunned Dwarf?
- A: Yes.

Q: What does R and M stand for?
- A: Attack range and movement.

Q: Where do I see the creature’s health?
- A: It’s next to the square, green, icon, above range and movement.

Q: Why is there a picture of a Rock & Stone card next to some creatures?
- A: It means whoever deals the killing blow to this creature gets a Rock & Stone card.

DRILLER
Q: Can the Driller drill through multiple wall spaces and/or stalagmites on a single movement action?
- A: No, your movement action ends when you move into a stalagmite or wall segment (it still saves you quite some time, compared to other Dwarves who have to stop and manually dig out the wall with pickaxe rolls).

Q: Can creatures fly or shoot over flames from the Driller’s Flaming Ground?
- A: No, the flames reach all the way to the ceiling, blocking Line of Sight for everybody and movement of all creatures.

Q: Can you fire the Flaming Ground on an empty space?
- A: Yes.

Q: Doyou lay down flames for a Flaming Ground attack even if you roll no hits on the dice?
- A: Yes.

ENGINEER
Q: Can the Engineer shoot over the walls (the dark spaces with no cave tile) with the grenade launcher?
- A: No. The walls are thought to go from floor to ceiling. There is no lobbing or jumping over them (but you can, and often most, carve your way through walls).

Q: Does the Engineer's grenade launcher use ammo? The rulebook does not mention ammo usage.
- A: Yes. Unless specifically mentioned, ALL weapons use 1 ammo when fired.

Q: If there are several Grunts spawning within range, does the sentry gun shoot at each Grunt?
- A: Yes. One shot per turn for each attacking/moving/spawning creature within range and line of sight.

Q: Does the sentry gun use ammo when it shoots?
- A: No, only when you place it , or relocate it.

Q: Can the sentry gun use the reroll effect of a Flare Shot?
- A: Yes.

Q: If a creature is standing adjacent to the sentry gun and activates, will the sentry gun get to shoot?
- A: Yes, but the creature also gets to carry out its attack, so they might end up killing each other.

Q: Can a sentry gun shoot at a target within range as it moves out of range?
- A: Yes.

Q: Can the sentry gun be stunned, webbed or knocked over?
- A: No. Ignore any effects applied to the sentry gun.

GUNNER
Q: Does the Gunner's zipline have to be launched so that it goes through the center of each space below it?
- A: No, you can use the zipline in any directionacross a pit, as long as the start and end space are clear to see, and open for movement (although the zipline example in the book might be confusing).

Q: Can creatures spawn inside the Gunner’s shield?
- A: Yes, but they can’t attack any Dwarf protected by the shield.

SCOUT
Q: Can the Scout move over anything but walls?
- A: Everything but walls and flames.

Q: Can the scout use his light-footed free attack after each move action in his turn?
- A: Yes (so, three times, max.).

Q: Can the scout use his light-footed free attack after a move that ends prematurely, e.g. in goo from the Goo Bomber expansion?
- A: Yes. As long as the Scout doesn’t end up knocked over or stunned, should that ever occur, he can still use his free attack after movement. The number of spaces moved is also irrelevant.

Q: Can the Scout fire a Flare Shot as a free action after movement, because of his light-footed ability?
- A: Yes, the Scout can perform either a ranged attack, a throwable attack or a flare shot as a free action after moving.

Q: Do flare rerolls work vs grabber and cave leech?
- A: Yes, if the attacked Dwarf is standing on or adjacent to a flare token.

Q: Does the flare token allow for pickaxe attack rerolls?
- A: No.

WEAPON UPGRADES
- You can save a weapon upgrade you find. In a later turn, you can attach it as a free action, or give it to another Dwarf with the ‘Exchange supplies’ action.

DROP POD
- While inside the drop pod, Dwarves can still attack, but they cannot be attacked. The drop pod also protects them against the effects of event cards.

DOUBLE HIT
- If you roll a double hit with a single weapon die, you must assign both hits to the same target. However, if you roll a double hit with a pickaxe, you may distribute the hits.

AQUARQ
- Aquarqs are a special type of mineral that only appears in certain scenarios and must be dropped off in a mine head. This substance is very heavy: each Dwarf can only carry 1 Aquarq at a time.

STALAGMITES
- Stalagmites block movement for everyone, except the Driller, flying creatures, BOSCO, and the Scout.

THROWABLES
- Throwables can damage your fellow Dwarves, so be careful where you fling your grenades!

AREA EFFECT
- When throwing a throwable with an area effect, only the space with a [T] symbol needs to be within range. You may choose how to angle the blast pattern.

MINERALS
- If you use a throwable to destroy a stalagmite, any minerals contained within are destroyed: do not roll the mineral die. However, if you use a throwable to destroy a wall containing a mineral, the mineral is not destroyed: it drops on its space and can be collected by any Dwarf.

CREATURE ACTIVATION
- Creatures are only activated when an event or swarm card says so. Creatures prioritize attack over movement and will become passive again at the start of the next player’s turn.

DRILLER
- If the Driller uses his drill to destroy a stalagmite, any minerals contained within are destroyed: do not roll the mineral die. The Driller cannot drill into walls containing minerals.

GOLD FOR NITRA
- Gold can be used to substitute Nitra when calling down a new supply pod.

EXCHANGE SUPPLIES
- Exchanging supplies with a knocked over or unconscious Dwarf is allowed.

UNCONSCIOUS DWARF
- If a Dwarf runs out of health, he’s unconscious. Unconscious Dwarves skip their turn and don’t draw any event cards; instead, they advance the swarm threat marker by 1.

SCARED SYMBOL
- Scare symbols on creatures do not affect Dwarves. Creatures resistant to explosive damage can still be scared off. If a creature is both scared and either stunned or frozen in the same attack, the attacking Dwarf picks 1 effect to apply.

OUT OF CREATURES
- If a card instructs you to spawn a certain creature but all creatures of that type are already on the
board, instead spawn 1 Grunt for each creature you couldn’t place. If you run out of Grunts, don’t spawn anything else.

SOLO MODE ROCK ‘N STONE CARDS
- Solo mode: you may play Rock ‘n Stone cards on yourself, no matter what the card says.

DEEP DIVE CAMPAIGN
- Carry over everything between missions, but don’t reload your weapons. You may choose to discard 1 or more weapon upgrades to replenish your own health, or to allow yourself or another Dwarf to fully reload 1 weapon. Between missions, discard all Nitra and gold. For each gold discarded, one of the Dwarves receives 1 health, 1 ammo, 1 throwable, or 1 Rock ‘n’ Stone card.

AMMO CONSUMPTION
- All weapons cost ammo to shoot, unless specifically mentioned. The sentry gun only costs ammo to place; it does not require ammo to shoot.

Q: When I apply damage to a Frozen creature with resistance against my weapon, do I apply the resistance (reduce the damage) before doubling it?
- A: Yes.

Q: If I have the 1 bullet + stun weapon upgrade and roll against a creature with bullet resistance, does it still get stunned?
- A: Yes, as long as the bullet rolled a damaging hit (even if it doesn’t give damage).

Q: If I have a stun weapon upgrade on the grenade launcher, and rolls the result that scares away the creature, does it get stunned or scared away?
- A: The active player chooses if the creature is stunned or scared away (but not both). Same thing with freeze effect.

Q: What happens to flying creatures that are frozen?
- A: They are instantly killed as they fall to the ground and shatter.

Q: Do status effects on a Dwarf (stun, webbed) persist after being revived?
- A: Status effect persists for one turn, so if you are stunned and knocked unconscious in a turn, but then revived before your next turn starts, yes, then you would still be affected by the status effect. It takes a full turn to get rid of the effect for you, unconscious or not.

Q: Do status tokens stack? Can you be webbed 3 times and thus not move for 3 turns?
- A: No.

Q: What happens if I run out of tokens, eg. freezeor stun tokens?
- A: Hopefully, you don't. But there's no limit to tokens, gameplay-wise, you can make your own, use proxies or remind each other of the effect while it lasts

Q: When does the freeze effect apply?
- A: The freeze effect applies only on a hit, and AFTER the damage is dealt.

Q: What is the difference between being on the drop pod at mission start and mission end (all objectives are met)?
- A: In both situations you are safe from creature attacks, leeches and grabbers. However, you
do not draw event cards when onboard the drop pod once the objectives have been met, and
the mission is coming to a closure.

Q: Can a Dwarf get knocked over while in the drop pod (from event cards)?
- A: No.

Q: Can a Dwarf find grenades, upgrades, overclocked weapons, etc. while in the drop pod
(from event cards)?
- A: No. You must ignore these benefits.

Q: Will creatures still attack Dwarves in the drop pod, even though they are safe, or will the creatures seek out other targets.
- A: The creatures will seek out other targets, if any.

Q: Do we fail the mission when the threat increases, but the threat marker is already at the
end of the track?
- A: Yes, but you can use an Overwhelming Odds alternate ending: When the threat marker is at the end of the track, you draw and resolve swarm cards instead of Event cards.

Q: Can I make the game more intense?
- A: Absolutely, by playing on a higher hazard level. More Dwarves also makes the game a bit harder, as more event cards are drawn while individual Dwarves must wait longer to respond.Additionally, you can always trigger a swarm instead of drawing an event card, in the turn when the drop pod returns to the cave (ie., all objectives have been met). Like in the computer game, this increases the urgency to get out of the cave fast.

Q: Can I make the game more forgiving?
- A: Absolutely, by playing on a lower hazard level. Also, playing with BOSCO on a solo mission
is slightly easier than playing with multiple Dwarves.

Q: Can you break up movement? Aka can you take two hexes of movement then use the pickaxe actionthen move the last hex from your previous movement action?
- A: No. If you end your move to do another action before using all three spaces, you will have to take another move action, if you want to move again.

Q: Can you mine loot bugs under Dwarves and creatures?
- A: Yes (if you can remember that they are there).

Q: Does the supply pod get removed when empty, or only when a new one is called down?
- A: Remove it in both cases.

Q: Does the supply pod block Line of Sight or movement?
- A: No (even though the size of the model might make you think so).

Q: For Aquarq missions, can you carry unlimited gold, nitra, and other tokens as long as you only have 1 Aquarq on you?
- A: You can carry any amount of gold and nitra, along with ONE aquarq.

Q: In mission 9, whena special event spawns a Slasher, does it activate?
- A: Yes (if not killed with reaction shots first).

Q: Can I play Rock 'n' Stone cards in the same turn I got them?
- A: Yes, whenever the context makes sense.

Q: Can I play any and all Rock 'n' Stone cards on another player's turn?
- A: Yes, whenever the context makes sense.

Q: Can I play Rock ‘n’ Stone cards in the Event card phase?
- A: Yes, whenever the context makes sense. (ie. lets you reroll creature dice during a creature attack).

Q: Can I play Rock ‘n’ Stone cards when my Dwarf is unconscious?
- A: No. But you can bring snacks for the other players and hope this will pursuade them to revive you ASAP.

Q: Lock and Load! Rock ‘n’ Stone card: Do you take ammo from the general supply or from your own stash?
- A: The general supply.

Q: Hello, Steeve! Rock ‘n’ Stone card: Is "temporarily" just that one move and attack, or is there a duration, e.g. until Steeve is killed?
- A: Only that one move and attack.

Q: Is the Hello Steeve! card a bit weak, compared to the computer game?
- A: We made Steeve a bit stronger, as the card shows. A suggested house rule, however, though, is to allow you to use the card not only on adjacent creatures, but anywhere on the board. That way it finds its use more often.

Q: Look what I found! Rock ‘n’ Stone card: Do you include discarded throwables? When shuffling, do you add discarded cards?
- A: No, you empty the draw pile first. If it is empty already, make a new draw pile by shuffling any discarded cards.

Q: To pick up something like an Apoca bloom do you need to move over it or end your movement on it?
- A: Just move over it, no need to end your turn.

Q: What if you run out of single space cave segments?
- A: Pick some from an area that is of less importance at this point, or mark the carved out areas in some other way.

Q: What is the purpose of the 3 or so extra rock tokens when we have so many 3D stalagmites (in the Deluxe edition)?
- A: So you can make your own custom missions with even more stalagmites, if you wish.

Q: I bought the "Goo from above" expansion and the back of the box says 12 goo tokens, but inside it came only with 6. Am i owed 6 more goo tokens or is this a manufacturing mistake?
- A: It is a print mistake on the back of the box, unfortunately. The 6 goo tokens is the correct number.

Q: When an event card is triggered an unseen enemy, can the current playing dwarf interrupt the enemy?
- A: No, but any other standing dwarves are allowed to intrrupt the enemy and hep you out.

Q: How many Throwables and Rock & Stone cards can I have at any point?
- A: There is no upper limit.

Q: How do I get more Throwables and Rock & Stone cards?
- A: Some event cards give various cards, as does killing large monsters. You also get a free Rock & Stone card as you collect a Barley Bulb pickup.

Q: Can Throwables (and the Engineer's Grenade Launcher) be used at "R0", as in throwing it at their feet? Or must they be used on an adjacent space or farther away?
- A: Yes, you cantoss them at your own space, if you want to. It might hurt, though...

Q: Can Throwables be thrown into "deep pit" or "stalagmite" tiles, or can they only be used on "empty ground tiles"?
- A: Throwables can be thrown on any space in the cave system, but not onto wall spaces.

Q: Some Throwables have a “T” on a red background shown in their area of effect. Others do not. What is the difference?
- A: If the space with the "T" is not red, that particular space (where the Throwable lands) is not affected by the effect of the Throwable. Only the space with the “T” needs to be in range, in order for the entire area to be affected.

Q: There are some throwables that can remove stalagmites (Tunnel Carver, Soil Smasher and Satchel Charge). Do stalagmites that get removedby these throwables still get a dice roll chance to drop minerals?
- A: Destroyed stalagmites do not give any minerals. You must use the pickaxe action on stalagmites if you want to collect minerals from them.

Q: Electrocution grenade -can it stun creatures with stun resistance?
- A: No.

Q: Proximity grenade -can it be thrown directly at a creature?
- A: No, it has to go to an empty space (think of it needing some seconds to prime).

Q: Proximity grenade -what happens if it only scares away the creature activating it?
- A: The creature will flee back in the direction it came from.

Q: Proximity grenade -can it be activated by flying creatures?
- A: No, they have to walk over it

Q: Some weapons have “free action” attacks (eg. the Subata 120 and the Cryo Cannon's Flake Storm). Can I use those in other players’ turns?
- A: No, you can only use those in your own turn, unless the action is granted by a Rock & Stone card, or as a reactive shot. In those cases, you can still only use one attack, free or not.

Q: How often can I fire a "free action" weapon in my turn?
- A: As often as you want, as long as you pay ammo for every shot made. Each shot is a new action, however, so creature resistance will be applied to EVERY shot. That also goes for the Gunner's successive attacks; free shots, yes, but you must still pay ammo and apply creature resistance to every shot (the roll of three dice, in this instance).

Q: The Breach Cutter, how does it shoot?
- A: It doesn’t require Line of Sight. It shoots along a straight ‘shortest line’ toward its target, ie. you pick a target and take the shortest route to it. If the line crosses two tiles at the same distance you pick one you want to hit -you don’t get to hit all tiles it touches.

Q: Does the breach cutter damage friendly units (Dwarf, sentry gun)?
- A: Yes, if they get in the way (like with all weapons and throwables).

Q: Can some weapons shoot over obstacles, in an arc, like throwing throwables?
- A: Yes, the Engineer's Grenade Launcher (in both firing modes).

Q: Some weapons with area of effect (AOE) has a "T", but the Engineer's Grenade Launcher does not?
- A: That is a mistake. The "T" indicates where the initial shot should land -the rest of the AOE can be out of range, but is still affected by the attack.

Q: Does LOS get updated during an attack or after? When I assign 3 dice and the first die kills a target can I then assign the remaining dice to targets that had LOS blocked by that first target?
- A: Line of Sight get updated during the attack. So, yes, killing a creature that blocked line of sight lets you immediately hurt the creatures hidden behind it

Q: Does the Sentry Gun cost ammo to fire?
- A: No. The Sentry Gun only cost ammo to place.

Q: Some weapon upgrades have bonus dice. How do those rolls apply?
- A: They must follow the rules from the original weapon, as they only affect damage output, not functionality. Weapons with area damage get the bonus die effect added to the entire area of effect. Weapons with dice that have no “same target” text can have you place the bonus die effect on same or adjacent targets. Weapons that specifically says "same target" to its normal attack, then any bonus dice must also be applied to that target, explosion dice is no exception. If a weapon requires you to roll two dice andpick one, roll the bonus die afterwards, and add it to the result (otherwise, it wouldn't be much of an upgrade).

Q: Do I get to roll bonus dice when using a weapon ability that has no dice roll (e.g. the Flake Storm on the Cryo Cannon)?
- A: No, only whenthe weapon already uses dice rolls.

Q: Are weapon upgrades flipped over when a Dwarf moves adjacent to them like other pickups, or are they not revealed until picked up?
- A: They are flipped over when a Dwarf moves adjacent to them.

Q: Does it take an action to pick up a weapon upgrade?
- A: No, you can do so just by moving over it. You can even apply it immediately to any of your weapons.

Q: Can I hold on to an upgrade, to later attach it to a weapon?
- A: Yes. But once attached, you cannot detach it from the slot without losing it –discard it from your weapon upgrade slot. This can be done if you find another upgrade that you would like instead of one you already attached.

Q: Do I lose the upgrade on a weapon when I overclock it?
- A: No, just attach the upgrade to the weapon again, after flipping it.

Q: Can I move or trade an upgrade that has already been attached to a weapon?
- A: No. The only way to detach an upgrade is to discard it entirely.

Q: The weapon upgrade that lets you use any type of ammo for the weapon, how does that work?
- A: Attach it to a weapon, and from now on, when shooting with this weapon, take ammo from either the right side (secondary weapon) or left side (primary side) on your board, and discard it.

Q: Do bonus dice get the weapon's effect, like stun or freeze? For example, upgrading an overclocked Bulldog revolver with a bonus die, can it freeze two adjacent targets?
- A: Yes.

Q: Is the freeze effect of an attack also applied to the damage done by the same attack action as the freeze effect?
- A: No, the freeze effect is applied after the damage takes place. It will only affect attacks that follows the attack that caused the freezing.

Q: Does the Ignore resistances upgrade ignore the protection the Warden's shield gives?
- A: No.
